10.08.2020 - Update from press conference - Aarhus, Silkeborg, Ringsted and corona-update

Today there's just been a press conference regarding the situation in Aarhus, Silkeborg and Ringsted with increased spread of coronavirus, as well as an update on the condition in Denmark and the EU.

Brief summary in non-prioritized order:

  1. The contact number has risen to 1.4

  2. Aarhus, Ringsted, Silkeborg, Glostrup, Nyborg, Solrød og Sorø are cities with increased attention from the authorities, where the amount of infected has been above 20 per 100.000 people the last week.

  3. Obligation to wear face masks in Aarhus, Silkeborg, Odder, Horsens, Skanderborg and Favrskov in the public transport locally. Encouragement to use face masks in shopping centres etc. in Silkeborg.

  4. It is extra important that we stay home if we show any symptoms, particularly now where we are entering the fall and winter seasons, where a lot of infectious diseases are thriving.

  5. Face masks must never be seen as a replacement for the normal precautions with distance and proper hygiene, but instead as a supplement.

  6. Cloth face masks are better than no face masks at all, and in cases where the need for protection are higher, it can be necessary to use CE-marked face masks.

Press conference - Aarhus, Silkeborg, Ringsted and corona-update

Magnus Heunicke – Minister of Health and the Elderly

  • The situation is worrying.

  • Contact number = 1.4. The virus is spreading.

  • Around half of all new cases at the moment are located in Aarhus, with an amount of infected of 104,9 per 100.000 people.

  • Aarhus, Ringsted, Silkeborg, Glostrup, Nyborg, Solrød og Sorø are cities with increased attention from the authorities, where the amount of infected has been above 20 per 100.000 people the last week.

  • Obligation to wear face masks in Aarhus, Silkeborg, Odder, Horsens, Skanderborg and Favrskov in the public transport locally. Encouragement to use face masks in shopping centres etc. in Silkeborg.

  • We have to continue keeping distance, wear face masks where encouraged to do so, keep proper hand hygiene etc.

  • If you have a tiny little suspicion that you may be infected, get tested. If you show symptoms, get a referral and get tested.

Anette Lykke Petri – The Danish Patient Safety Authority

  • There’s likely a shared “patient zero” when it comes to the current spread of infection in Aarhus and Silkeborg. The infection has been happening due to parties, work attendance etc., so a local infection manifestation in the society.

  • Ringsted is different, as it has been a very local incidence at the Danish Crown butchery. Not a widespread infection manifestation in society.

Kåre Mølbak- Director for the SSI

  • Some may have thought what we experienced in the spring was just a bad dream, and now, after the summer break, it would be over. That’s not the case.

  • WHO says that the situation in Europe is worrying, with a lot of increased infection across all of Europe.

  • We have a huge test capacity in Denmark, and we have a functioning system in terms of tracking infected and whom they have been in contact with.

  • I expect a vaccine in 2021. The first one may not be the best but will cover quite a few. Then there will be a second-generation and a third-generation of the vaccine, and at some point I expect all of this to be over.

Søren Brostrøm – Director for the SST

  • It is extra important that we stay home if we show any symptoms, particularly now where we are entering the fall and winter seasons, where a lot of infectious diseases are thriving.

  • Face masks must never be seen as a replacement for the normal precautions with distance and proper hygiene, but instead as a supplement.

  • Cloth face masks are better than no face masks at all, and in cases where the need for protection are higher, it can be necessary to use CE-marked face masks.
