15.10.2021 - BREAKING NEWS: Most travel restrictions will be removed from today and the 25th!

The politicians have agreed to an almost complete removal of all entry-, test- and isolation requirements for entering Denmark, as well as going on vacation when living in Denmark.

This comes as the vast majority of the Danish population has been vaccinated, and the same is the case for most of Europe. COVID-19 is therefore estimated to no longer be a significant threat to the Danish society, and the rules on travels should therefore reflect that.

Bullets:

  1. The travel guides from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) become normalised, meaning they will no longer be coloured after the level of COVID-19 infection in the country, but after security factors like terror, war, unsettlement etc.

  2. In the EU and Schengen area will people, who have finished their vaccination programme, been previously infected, as well as people who have a negative test, still be able to travel into Denmark without restrictions.

  3. For all other travellers from the EU and Schengen area, there will be a requirement that you must get tested within 24 hours of arriving in Denmark.

  4. The requirement of a worthy purpose and a negative test result before entering Denmark will be removed for the entire world.

  5. People who have finished their vaccination from OECD countries, countries from the EU’s positive list, as well as countries that are added to the EU’s corona passport-scheme, can enter Denmark without requirement of test and isolation.

  6. For non-vaccinated travellers from countries on the EU’s positive list will there be a requirement of a test after entering Denmark.

  7. Travellers from all other countries will have to get tested and enter isolation after travelling into Denmark.

OBS: www.coronasmitte.dk is also currently being revised with the new rules, so remember to check that out in case you need to travel :)!

The changes to the travel restrictions - Detailed

Underneath you can see what the travel restrictions will look like.

Travelling out of Denmark (in effect from today):

  • The travel guides from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) become normalised, meaning they will no longer be coloured after the level of COVID-19 infection in the country, but after security factors like terror, war, unsettlement etc.

  • Many countries do still have COVID-19 restrictions. The travelling Danish tourist must therefore still read up on, and follow, the rules in place at the destination, and can read the security level on the MFA’s website, and the entry rules for COVID-19-matters on the websites of the Danish embassies.

  • Non-vaccinated travellers will be able to read about the restrictions in place after returning home on www.coronasmitte.dk, when it comes to testing and isolation obligations. Non-vaccinated travellers must furthermore be particularly aware that many countries still don’t allow entry unless you have been fully vaccinated.

Travelling into Denmark (in effect from Monday the 25th of October 2021)

  • In the EU and Schengen area will people, who have finished their vaccination programme, been previously infected, as well as people who have a negative test, still be able to travel into Denmark without restrictions.

  • For all other travellers from the EU and Schengen area, there will be a requirement that you must get tested within 24 hours of arriving in Denmark. The requirement will also be in effect for people with Danish citizenship or with permanent residence in Denmark when they travel back into Denmark.

  • The requirement of a worthy purpose and a negative test result before entering Denmark will be removed for the entire world.

  • The COVID-19 related border control from the Danish police will stop.

  • People who have finished their vaccination from OECD countries, countries from the EU’s positive list, as well as countries that are added to the EU’s corona passport-scheme, can enter Denmark without requirement of test and isolation.

  • For non-vaccinated travellers from countries on the EU’s positive list will there be a requirement of a test after entering Denmark.

  • Travellers from all other countries will have to get tested and enter isolation after travelling into Denmark.

  • For cruise ship tourism there will be a requirement of a corona passport before boarding, as well as a test requirement before stepping onto Danish soil, in case of infection spread on the ship.

Epidemic control:

  • The cross-governmental task force for COVID-19 travel restrictions will still maintain a level of readiness that can activate an emergency brake and reimplement strict restrictions in case of new worrying and threatening virus variants. In case this happens will all travels be advised against in the travel guides (red colour), and all requirements of test before entering Denmark, a worthy purpose, test before boarding the plane as well as test and isolation after entry be re-implemented again.
