16.04.2021 - The rules for entry into Denmark will gradually be eased - starting from 21.04.2021

The political leaders have agreed to a gradual easing of the entry restrictions and requirements of testing and isolation. This includes the return of the coloured world map, where yellow and orange countries, in particular, will be gradually exempt from requirements of testing and isolation. The colour red will in the future mean countries/regions where there are worrying variants of coronavirus.

A full list of the four phases can be seen below the picture. I've estimated that the 9 bullets below are the most interesting ones for most people. But please check the full list before asking questions :)!

(Remember to also read the summary about the up-speeded reopening of Denmark, announced during the night, which will also start by the 21st of April - you can find it here: https://www.coronaindenmark.dk/post/16-04-2021-breaking-news-the-reopening-can-happen-faster-than-initially-agreed-upon)

Bullets:

  1. (21.04) The list of worthy purposes will be extended, so it, among other things, includes People's College and efterskole pupils, exchange students, agricultural interns, spouses, cohabitants and children travelling with a Dane living abroad, summer house owners, ship owners and people with a permanent camping agreement.

  2. (21.04) The rules for isolation will be eased for e.g. students who live in the border regions and study in Denmark.

  3. (21.04) The rules will be eased for business travellers, who will be able to return to work without the need for isolation.

  4. (21.04) The rules will be eased for people who own a desolate house in the Nordic countries, so they won't have to enter isolation upon returning.

  5. (01.05) Completely vaccinated Danes and foreigners, including tourists, from yellow and orange EU and Schengen countries can travel in and out of Denmark without the requirement of testing and isolation after entry into Denmark.

  6. (01.05) The rules of showing a negative corona test will be eased, so the test must have been done within 48 hours instead of 24 hours.

  7. (14.05) The requirement of worthy purposes will be removed for all foreigners travelling in from orange countries (only foreigners with residence in EU and Schengen countries). Tourists from these orange countries will then be able to travel into Denmark, although they will still be required to get tested and isolate when entering Denmark unless they have been vaccinated or infected earlier.

  8. (14.05) People, including tourists, travelling in from the border regions will be exempt from isolation requirement.

  9. (26.06) The implementation of the EU corona passport will make it possible to have vacation in Europa and receive tourists in Denmark on the condition of being able to show that you have tested negative, have been vaccinated or have been infected earlier. The exact model for this part is still to be ironed out.

More details

Below is a complete list of the agreed-upon phases of easings of travel restrictions and testing- and isolation requirements. This will happen over four phases:

Phase 1 - 21st of April 2021

  • A differentiated risk estimation, based on the infection situation (incidence, percentage of positive samples and testing frequency) in a given country/region. The world will be divided into yellow, orange and red countries/regions.

  • The models for regular updates for the EU, Schengen and third countries will be reimplemented, with regional estimates in the EU and Schengen countries.

  • The red, orange, yellow and green risk estimations will be taken into use again, with red meaning worrying new variants emerging in a given country.

  • The requirements on testing and isolation will be continued, with exceptions for people entering from yellow countries and regions.

  • The rules will be eased for business travellers, who will be able to return to work without the need for isolation.

  • The rules will be eased for people who own a desolate house in the Nordic countries, so they won't have to enter isolation upon returning.

  • The list of worthy purposes will be extended, so it, among other things, includes People's College and efterskole pupils, exchange students, agricultural interns, spouses, cohabitants and children travelling with a Dane living abroad, summer house owners, ship owners and people with a permanent camping agreement.

  • The rules for isolation will be eased for e.g. students who live in the border regions and study in Denmark.

  • Danish professional athletes will be allowed to take care of their training during the isolation period, after having been abroad to participate in tournaments.

Phase 1 - 1st of May 2021

  • Completely vaccinated Danes and foreigners, including tourists, from yellow and orange EU and Schengen countries can travel in and out of Denmark without the requirement of testing and isolation after entry into Denmark. This will not be the case for red countries, which will be countries with worrying variants of covid-19.

  • A model must be established so the significant increase of travellers will also mean that only travellers who are fulfilling the requirements can enter the country, without the controls becoming so vast in nature, that it impacts the passage of people and goods. This can e.g. happen with periodic controls and fines to those who try to travel in without necessary documentation.

  • The rules of showing a negative corona test will be eased, so the test must have been done within 48 hours instead of 24 hours.

Phase 3 - expectedly the 14th of May 2021 (When the eldest and most vulnerable citizens, as well as citizens above 50 who wishes to, have been vaccinated with the first injection)

  • The incidence limit for opening/shutting down yellow and orange countries and regions will be eased from 20 to 30, and 50 to 60 respectively (100.000/7 days). This will mean that more countries will be exempt from the "worthy purpose"-rule and fewer countries will land in the orange category, meaning they will be exempt from requirements of isolation.

  • The requirement of worthy purposes will be removed for all foreigners travelling in from orange countries (only foreigners with residence in EU and Schengen countries). Tourists from these orange countries will then be able to travel into Denmark, although they will still be required to get tested and isolate when entering Denmark unless they have been vaccinated or infected earlier.

  • People, including tourists, travelling in from the border regions will be exempt from isolation requirement.

Phase 4 - expectedly the 26th of June 2021 (When an EU corona passport has been implemented)

  • The implementation of the EU corona passport will make it possible to have vacation in Europa and receive tourists in Denmark on the condition of being able to show that you have tested negative, have been vaccinated or have been infected earlier. The exact model for this part is still to be ironed out.

  • For people travelling without a corona passport, there will still be travel restrictions and infection preventing measures in effect. The exact measures in use will be agreed upon later.
